Session 1 - Attack on Water's Edge

  • Our story began in the town of Water's Edge. Water's Edge is a peaceful village and a favoured spot to rest at for the busy traders on the route between Caldor and Zinghera. The party are made up of local residents of the village and traveller's to the village of Water's Edge.
  • It was a peaceful day like any other; until Azreal Shackleton, the local blacksmith noticed smoke in the distance. Several of the local farmers ran in to the village, many drenched in blood with fresh wounds and carrying several dying or unconscious farm hands.
  • Scarntlat and Dongella tended to the wounded farmers before pelting towards the source of the smoke along with the rest of the party.
  • Around 2 kilometres away from the village, several farmsteads have been put to the torch by what appears to be a band of marauding orcs. The bodies of many farmers and peasants lay scattered around in the scorched fields.
  • The band seems to be lead by a hulking orc chieftain - named Garauk - and a brooding shaman with a savage-looking worg companion.
  • The party wasted no time in ploughing into the orcs, dropping many of them with arrows and sling bullets whilst the chieftain charged towards their ranks with his men in tow. The shaman placed a bundle of seeds into the mouth of one of the deceased farmers and with a flick of his staff brought the corpse to life.
  • Now in hand to hand combat with the orcs; the party cut through their numbers. Azreal and Khun'tt moved out of the fray to offer range support to their allies. However Khun'tt's sling bullet hit the cleric Scarntlat squarely in the head, very nearly killing him.
  • A blow from the chieftain's axe dropped John the Bard to the floor, mortally wounded; however the godly magic of Dongella was able to save the bard's life in the nick of time.
  • An arrow from Torvin the dwarf ended the shaman's life; whilst Khun'tt tried to reason with the chieftain. The only reply offered by the blood-crazed chieftain was, "All of you will pay for what you have stolen from us!".
  • Khun'tt swiftly beheaded the chieftain, cutting short the vile insults which spewed from his mouth; whilst Dongella turned the undead farmer, his body bursts with the raw power of her god's energy. Within minutes all the orcs except one lay dead, this one was simply knocked unconscious by Deliah so that the party could question him.
  • From the incapacitated orc they learnt that a gnome in purple clothing and a blonde human with a scar across his eye had taken a revered skull of one of their previous chieftains. It was a humongous skull with two gemstones gems for eyes.
  • The party took the orc back to Water's Edge and left him in the stables for further questioning. Upon their return they were greeted as heroes by the farmers and farmhands.
  • Later that evening in the middle of the merriments at having saved the village, the party discovered a gnome bearing an awful similarity to the one whom the orcs described as being one of the two thieves.
  • Dongella sidled up to the gnome and his two dwarf bodyguards and introduced herself; she also stealthily casts charm person, leading the gnome to happily divulge his secrets. The gnome's name is Brandon; a master thief who along with his partner Lambert, stole the skull with gem encrusted eyes from the orc clan. He also divulged that they have a buyer for the skull whom they are to meet at the Black Dog Inn in Caldor as he is offering 20,000 gold pieces for the relic. When asked to divulge the name of the client Brandon simply stated that "we never saw his face, he was always in shadows and only answered our letters with a single symbol: a tower wreathed in amber flames.".
  • Brandon also mentioned that Lambert - the man with the scar over his left eye - has already left several days ago to deliver the skull to Caldor.
  • The party headed off to bed, with Azreal Shackleton sleeping in the barn to keep an eye on the orc prisoner. The orc tells him that "the clan will rise up and burn all of you if you do not return the skull.".
  • Without the rest of the party's knowledge or consent, Khun'tt headed to the barn and released the orc; sending him back to his clan.
  • The following morning the party set off in pursuit of Lambert. They left Brandon the gnome in a charmed and merry state.
  • Upon the road to Caldor the party were waylaid by a group of bandits. John the Bard was almost dismembered by one of them but luckily Scarntlat the cleric was on hand to heal his wounds whilst the party made short work of the highwaymen.
